Why is it important to hire a makeup artist (MUA) for my wedding?
Having been a bride, I know that having a hair and makeup artist is invaluable. Weddings can be stressful so the moment the bride or her bridal party sit in our chair, it is time to wind down and enjoy the day. We have the experience, skill, knowledge and products to create a beautiful, effective, unique and long-lasting makeup look for you. We always endeavour to create a stress-free, convenient and lighthearted environment. You will save time, energy and it’s such a treat!
How far in advance should I book a MUA?
To avoid the disappointment of not finding the MUA of your choice, we would recommend that you make a booking as soon as you get engaged or as soon as you start the wedding planning process.
Should every bride have a trial before the wedding day?
Absolutely. During the trial, we will discuss and try out the makeup style you’ve chosen. It allows us to be prepared and make any changes if necessary. You need to establish whether the MUA’s style and techniques are what you want. The initial connection with your MUA is really important because he/she is going to be a part of one of your most special days. So you need to feel comfortable. Having a trial also allows you to wear the makeup for the day so that you can see if it lasts. When your wedding day comes, we would have the look nailed down already and everything will be a breeze!
When should I have my makeup trial done?
We advise that you have your trial done at least 8 weeks before your wedding day. This way we can assess the condition of your skin and hair; and make suggestions on ways to improve it, if need be. We also use this time to discuss your wedding day timeline, your dress, bridesmaids dresses, colour pallette etc. This can take 1 – 1.5 hours. If you would like to see whether the MUA’s skill and style is what you want then you could simply book a trial before booking for your wedding day.
Where does the makeup trial take place?
We are based in Hillcrest, KZN, South Africa. Your trial can take place in the comfort of your home or at another venue which your POISED MUA will confirm. The travelling costs will be on your invoice. Should you live elsewhere in South Africa, travel arrangements will need to be discussed.
I am not sure what makeup look I want, can you help?
Of course. That’s what we are here for. We suggest that you look for some inspirational pictures on Pinterest or social media. Always remember that whatever you choose, needs to suit you and we will advise you accordingly.
Can I hire you for partial makeup services? Example, just eyes or just face?
Unfortunately not. To achieve a holistic aesthetic the makeup would need to be done by us from start to finish.
How long will the makeup last?
The makeup should last no less than 8 hours without touch ups. We advise to have some powder or translucent powder on hand to dab the problem areas such as the T-zone, smile lines and under the eyes. Lips will need touching up due to eating/drinking etc. We advise that you bring a lipstick that closely suits the one we use.
What brands do you use?
We only use the best products which have been tried and tested. The main makeup brands include but are not limited to MAC, Kryolan, Revlon, Maybelline, Essence along with a few others. Skincare preparation is crucial in the makeup application process to ensure a long lasting, flawless appearance throughout the day. Skincare products include Bioderma, Eucerine, Maybelline, MAC etc.
How long does it take to do the makeup?
We budget 1 hour 15 minutes for the bride and 45 minutes for everyone else.
Do you travel to me on the wedding day?
It is most common for us to travel to the bride on her wedding day as it is more convenient. The travelling costs such as petrol, parking, toll fees, accommodation and/or flights will be on the invoice. Please note that travel costs are covered on a return-trip basis. Overnight accommodation will need to be organised for any wedding that takes place further than a 250km radius.

What if I am unhappy with my makeup?
We are confident that you will LOVE your makeup. But your happiness is our number one priority, so if you are dissatisfied with your makeup after the trial, please let us know so that we can discuss a way forward. There is always room for growth. Do you have a minimum number of people who have to use your services for my wedding?
We can discuss this as there are various factors such as where the wedding venue is etc. But generally, a minimum of 3 people are needed.
How do I book?
Kindly send an email to poisedmua@gmail.com requesting the booking form. Or fill out any of the forms on our website and we will be in contact with you.
The online booking form needs to be completed with all the required information. The booking is only reserved once the full deposit has been paid.
What do you need from me on the wedding day?
We will arrive promptly at the venue as per the schedule. Please ensure we have a decent amount of space to work in, running water, decent natural light and a plug point. You would have received a makeup schedule ahead of time which we need to stick to as best as possible to avoid you being late for your wedding.
Can you accommodate last minute clients who want their makeup done on the day?
You and your bridal party are our number ONE priority. If there is enough time then we will do our utmost to assist. Please inform us as soon as possible should there be additional clients for makeup. They would need to pay via EFT on the day.
Do you have reviews or references I can look at?
